Breaking Down Mike Gundy’s 104 Wins
One-hundred and four wins. An astonishing number. That’s 42 more than Pat Jones who was the previous record holder in Oklahoma State coaching history. Gundy is more than a full Jimmy Johnson (30-25-2) ahead of Jones, and there is no sign of slowing down any time soon.
There have been blowouts (Savannah) and nail-biters (all the Kansas State games). There have been ugly, slogging affairs (Montana State). There have been barn-burning shootouts (every Tech game). There have been unranked road wins and highly-ranked home losses. When you’ve coached 154 games in your career there will be a little bit of everything.
So let’s look at them. How good is Gundy on the road against the spread? What about at home when getting 3+ turnovers? What about in bowl games? We did this exercise last year before Gundy topped the century mark, and it was a lot of fun so I thought we should bring it back this season before the games get cranking. A look at Gundy’s 104 wins in a variety of ways. Most data came from Team Rankings or CFB Reference. Also, if you have requests, send them and we can try to figure them out for a follow-up post.
