Cibolo Cornerback JayVeon Cardwell Commits to Oklahoma State

Following an unofficial visit to Oklahoma State last week, Cibolo (Steele, Texas) cornerback JayVeon Cardwell has verbally committed to the Cowboys program. The three-star recruit posted the following to his Twitter to announce the news.

“First I want to take this time to thank God because without him none of this would be possible. I want to give a special thanks to my parents for supporting me all these years and through this recruiting process. I also want to thank my family, friends, and the many colleges that offered me. Last but not least I want to thank all the coaches for believing in my abilities and pushing me to work hard at my craft. The recruiting process has been a great blessing and I’m beyond grateful to have these opportunities and options. With that being said I would like to announce my verbal commitment to Oklahoma State University to further my education and play football!”

Cardwell held 20 scholarship offers but picked the Cowboys over offers from Ole Miss, Colorado, Duke, SMU and others. The 5-foot-11 Cibolo standout is the latest in a long line of recruits from the school to choose OSU, joining the likes of Jordan Sterns, Ryan Simmons, and Deionte Noel who all blazed their trail from Steele to Stillwater.

“Coming up there, I wouldn’t have said Oklahoma State was my top school, but I hadn’t seen it yet,” Cardwell said of his pre-visit thoughts to Rivals. “I wanted to get up there and see it and it was better than I thought it would be and it just felt right to go through with it.”

“When I was out there, it really just felt home to me,” he continued. “The facility was great and the coaching staff really just took me under their wing and just really made me feel like I was part of that family. I got to interact with a bunch of the players as well and they were all just really respectful and it just urged me to want to play there.”

The commitment from Cardwell, a bonafide cornerback with success at one of the highest levels of Texas football, comes at one of OSU’s most important areas of need for the 2018 class. The Cowboys already hold commitments from Gabe Lemons and Jaelyn Nolan in the class at the cornerback position, and with Cardwell joining the bunch, they now have a player who could potentially be a day-one contributor in some capacity.

As a junior last season, Cardwell recorded seven interceptions, 54 tackles, seven passes deflected, and three recovered fumbles.
