OSU Has Owned Texas Tech, Can Extend Win Streak to 10 Games Over Red Raiders

For most fans, the Oklahoma State-Texas Tech series will forever be remembered by the meme heard around the world.

Which is fitting, because like that meme, which is posted below, along with the startling score at the bottom of the screen, Oklahoma State has dominated this series of late.

The Cowboys have won nine straight over the Red Raiders dating back to 2009, the most lopsided outcome of which during that time — and the most lopsided game of the entire series — was that 66-6 beatdown in 2011. A win Saturday would make it *add the W, carry the 1* 10 straight for OSU over Tech. It would extend OSU’s longest winning streak in the series, which is in progress.

Texas Tech, for comparison’s sake, owns a program-long winning streak over OSU during this series of four games, which took place from 1989 to 1998. Its largest margin of victory was in 2000, when it stomped OSU 58-0. Kliff Kingsbury laid waste to the OSU defense that game, and OSU’s offense was inept as Iowa’s is now. OSU failed to score and threw two pick-sixes.

Despite OSU’s recent string of dominance, though, the all-time series between OSU and Texas Tech is tied. OSU has 21 wins, Tech has 21 wins, according to winsipedia. And there have been three ties in the series.

The Cowboys are favored by a hefty margin on Saturday to extend their win streak to 10 games, but with a new QB in Alan Bowman finding his groove and OSU coming off a big win last week, this game reeks of trap game potential given its recent lopsided nature.

But if recent history tells us one thing, it’s that Gundy owns as much stake in Lubbock as Greg Abbott. We’ll find out Saturday just how good Texas Tech really is — and maybe just how legitimate OSU’s conference championship hopes are.
