Three Players Returning From Injury Who Could Contribute This Season

Published

on

Injuries are part of college sports, unfortunately, and Oklahoma State is not exempt from the injury bug. Some of the injured players on the roster last season, however, may be able to come back from injury this season. Here is a look at three players who could contribute this season after suffering injuries last year.

Ashton Lampkin – Cornerback

Lampkin leads the list, based on his proven ability to contribute already. Lampkin intercepted Jameis Winston in the season opener and returned an interception for a touchdown on the final play of OSU’ victory over UTSA. If Lampkin is able to return, he will be able to contribute at a high level again in a secondary that lacked depth last season.

Devante Averette – Linebacker

Averette was a junior college transfer who suffered a preseason knee injury that kept him sidelined for most of the 2014 season. An early enrollee that arrived with Devon Thomas and Mason Rudolph, Averette was expected by most to contribute early but injuries now leave him looking to contribute this season. A versatile linebacker with excellent speed, he is a candidate to see the rotation this year in a linebacker core that is deeper than any other time in Gundy’s tenure.

Sione Palelei – Running back

Palelei suffered a season ending knee injury in 2013 before signing with the Cowboys, and he seemed prime to return soon before suffering another knee injury just 11 months ago. Palelei is a speedy back who has excellent ‘get away from the cop’speed – a 40-yard dash time of 4.35 by 247sports. With the running back position lacking in depth and the run game taking a step back last season, Palelei is a candidate who could earn playing time if his body allows.
