Top 10 Comments: Weathers’ Suspension, Yurcich and Kingsbury’s Mutual Respect and more

The best of PFB readers’ comments from an up-and-down week at OSU.

After a wild week for Cowboy fans, lets recap the 10 most popular comments by PFB readers. You’ll notice the change in affairs from this time last week to today.

1. On Michael Weather’s Suspension

Patrick, Orlando: There’s our scholarship for Watson (25 upvotes)

I get your point, but every single year players transfer in and players transfer out towards the end of the season for countless reasons. Boynton will make sure there is room for Watson if he wants to be in Stillwater, regardless of whether or not Weathers is in a Cowboy uniform.

2. More on the Weather’s Situation

CCowboy: My (selfish as a fan) hope is that he takes a plea deal, apologizes, does a ton of community service, and runs ladders until he pukes multiple times. But, if Boynton ultimately makes the call that he needs to leave, then he can go. I trust in our coach to make the right decision. (23 upvotes)

This is a hard one. On the one hand, it was a dumb mistake that, while in need of punishment, may seem to warrant a second chance? On the other hand, it’s not like OSU’s program is squeaky clean after the madness that occurred last Fall. For each of those reasons, I wouldn’t be surprised if Weathers is off the team or simply coming off of the bench when the season first rolls around.

3. On Dax2AnnArbor

Clint: Bummer…
Well, best wishes Dax. (And you still have time to flip…) (21 upvotes)

I like this attitude Clint! Here’s the deal, Dax certainly could have been a program-changing player, but he also hasn’t played a snap of college football yet. There are too many unknowns to get too worked up about missing out on one recruit (even though this would be the one to get really worked up about). Once those “ones” multiply into many, then you start to have a problem.

4. On Texas’s Stadium Design Plans: The DKR South Endzone

For some context:

Singing Cowboy: DKR in ATX – well on its way to becoming the best place to watch Kansas and Maryland play football. (20 upvotes)

This was great Singing Cowboy, but I will probably wait to make any more Kansas jokes until this time next week.

5. On Keys to the Game vs. Tech

Zombie Willham: In the entire time since Gundy’s hire in 2005, Oklahoma State has lost only one game when scoring more points than their opponent. (19 upvotes)

Touché.

6. Kingsbury’s Pre-Game Presser on OSU

Drew: “I think Coach Yurchich, since he’s been there, has been very creative, one of the best offensive minds in the country,” Kingsbury said.

Real recognize real. (19 upvotes)

Good comment, Drew. I know Kingsbury has had his struggles, but I think he is a really fun coach to watch. His passion is evident through all phases of the game, and its awesome to see him engaging with the offense. Last week, I saw (via the Aflac Trivia Question) that Kingsbury was the leading passer amongst all active coaches coaching at their alma mater. Helps to make sense of the continued offensive success at Tech.

7. Boynton Jumped out of a Plane with the Armed Forces this week

OSU-Bill: As I saw someone on Twitter say, we’re all Army fans this week.

Nice! If you would have made me choose which was more likely — OSU losing to Tech by a wide margin, or OU needing overtime to beat Army — I probably would have chosen the former.

8. On the High Playoff Predictor Last Week

Tyler B: And all of it means nothing if we don’t beat Tech this weekend. (17 upvotes)

This comment aged (unfortunately) well.

9. Justice Hill’s Heisman Odds Increased Last Week

Still Original: 2017 – Justice Hill (through first 3 games)
37 carries 250 yards 3td 9 rec 58 yards
12.3 carries per game 83.3 yards per game

2018 – Justice Hill (through first 3 games)
34 carries 277 yards 4td 2 rec 33 yards
11.3 carries per game 92.3 yards per game

Justice will be unleashed this season. Already has more yards on less carries. And we all see how he ended 2017 as the XII rushing leader. Gundy knows what he’s doing. (16 upvotes)

Justice should have been unleashed on Saturday, and he wasn’t. Unfortunately, it didn’t feel like the coaching staff knew what they were doing limiting #5 to 12 carries, especially considering the fact that he averaged over nine yards per carry.

10. Some More thoughts on Yurcich and Kingsbury’s Offensive Success

OSU Student: Don’t you know? #1 in the nation in total offense is unacceptable. OSU is more prominent than that. (15 upvotes)

We saw some playful banter towards Yurcich haters in the comments last week. And while it is easy to criticize coaches game-game (see my thoughts directly above in #9), its hard to argue with the success Yurcich has had in his offensive tenure at Oklahoma State over the long haul. Year-in and year-out, the Pokes are recognized as one of the top offenses in the country. We will see if they can get back on that track this Saturday.
