Here are the categories in which Brandon Weeden is currently hovering near the top in both the Big 12 and NCAA.

Big 12
Yards – 2710 (3rd)
TDs – 22 (3rd)
Yards per attempt – 7.9 (3rd)
Completions – 246 (2nd)
Fewest interceptions – 7 (3rd)
Completion percentage – 71.3% (2nd)
Passing efficiency – 154.3 (3rd)
Wins – 8 (1st)

NCAA
Completions – 246 (3rd)
Completion percentage – 71.3% (7th)
Wins – 8 (1st)

I throw wins in there because, agree with it or not, it’s a stat that matter when determining the Heisman winner. 7 of the last 8 Heisman winners have played for the national championship.

And yet Ryan McCrystal of ESPN says he doesn’t know what would happen with the Heisman if LSU and OSU win out because neither has a serious Heisman contender. Really? Because Vegas has Weeden at 4 to 1 to win it right now. I’m not positive if that’s representative of “a Heisman contender”, but I’m guessing it is.

A loop around the web-o-sphere and you can find Weeden mostly in the 4th to 6th range.

Weeden is 5th in the CBS Heisman balloting. Somebody still has Rob Griff Tres in fourth, which is embarrassing. (CBS Sports)

ESPN has B-Weed 6th. (ESPN)

Ubben has him 4th and 1st in the Big 12. (ESPN)

SI has him 6th also. (Sports Illustrated)

I suspect if he can sneak up to 3rd by Bedlam he can leapfrog Case and Kellen with a massive W over OU.

That is…as long at Richardson and Luck fall to LSU and Oregon respectively.

Geaux Tigers.
