Brenen Thompson Headlines Star-Studded WR Big Board for OSU

Four-star 2022 recruit Brenen Thompson on Saturday trimmed his list to six schools and named Oklahoma State among them. Thompson is a top-100 talent and the headliner name of OSU’s targets in the cycle regardless of position. And with respect to position, well, he’d become the highest-rated receiver recruit for OSU since Dez Bryant.

Kind of a big deal!

The Pokes are likely to take at least one, maybe two more commitments at the position this cycle in addition to current commit Mason Gilkey and do-it-all athlete Braylin Presley. Here’s who else is on the radar right now as OSU continues to pursue a commitment at a key position.

1. Brenen Thompson |5-10, 165 | 247Sports Composite rank: 96.24

OSU’s only WR commit in the cycle, Mason Gilkey, is a big-bodied target at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds, and Thompson is the ideal complement to that skill set. He stands at 5-foot-10 but packs a real punch. The four-star receiver is also a track star who last year won the Texas 3A 200M title with a blazing 21.27 time. He also ran the 100M as a junior in 10.38 (!).

OSU is vying for Thompson’s signature in a battle against Clemson, Alabama, Texas, Oregon and Texas A&M.

2. Keshlon Jackson | 6-0, 170 | 247Sports Composite rank: 84.66

OSU became the second Big 12 school to offer Jackson last summer, but his recruitment has since exploded, with Ole Miss and Arkansas among the dozen schools to make him an offer in the months since.

Jackson in February announced his top seven and OSU was dropped from consideration, so at present OSU may be on the backburner for him, but as he noted in a prominent caveat, his recruitment is still “100% open.” OSU in years past has done well to maintain relationships with recruits who remove OSU from their top groups, and I’d expect they do the same here, given Jackson’s standing as a top-end talent from Louisiana.

3. Chris Marshall | 6-3, 195 | 247Sports Composite rank: 95.20

OSU offered Marshall earlier this spring just a few days before he released his new top schools, which notably did not include OSU. And Texas A&M appears to be the frontrunner here. But OSU entered the mix late and at the very least can make a convincing pitch to the Texas standout about playing close to home for a program that has made a habit of producing stars at WR. That could be an enticing pitch that opens him up to the possibility of OSU, given he just started playing football last year.

4. Robert Spears-Jennings | 6-2, 195 | 247Sports Composite rank: 83.66

OSU has not offered Spears-Jennings, but two things would make an OSU marriage work. The first is that he’s a Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, native, so geographically it’s an easy trek from high school to college. The second is that he, like several others on this list, looks to be a good fit next to Gilkey, with a self-reported 40-yard dash time of 4.4. He camped with OSU earlier this month ,so there’s some clear mutual interest here, too. Among those in the mix to land him right now are OU, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Arkansas and Boston College. OSU would naturally slot in as a contender one would think if it decides to join that bunch.

5. Isaiah Sategna | 5-11, 170 | 247Sports Composite rank: 91.42

OSU offered Sategna at the end of 2020, and he finally got a chance to visit Stillwater earlier this month as part of a recent visit spree that included trips to USC and Arkansas. Sategna was up until recently committed to Texas A&M but his decommitment has opened things up for the Pokes to potentially swoop in.

There could be movement on the Sategna front here soon. Here’s what he posted somewhat mysteriously on Saturday night. That came on the heels of an official visit to USC, though it more interestingly came at the end of a week in which Oregon picked up three crystal ball predictions for him.
