Cowgirl Tennis Coach Chris Young Pens Letter to Fans Ahead of Regular Season Stretch Run

Written by Kyle Boone

In seven years at the helm of the women’s tennis program, coach Chris Young has taken the program to new heights — and now he’s calling on OSU fans to help sustain this season’s success as it nears an end.

Young penned an open letter on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s events urging OSU fans to show support for the program. Here’s what he wrote, as relayed by Chris Batchelder, President and CEO of the OSU Alumni Association on his Twitter account.

We are entering the final two weekends of the regular season and the final home weekend for Cowgirl Tennis! Our girls are 15-2 on the year and 4-1 in Big 12 play. Tomorrow night (Friday) we host TCU at 5:30 p.m. and then our final regular season home match will be Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. Texas Tech.

These will be two very exciting matches as both teams are very talented. Our girls are ranked No. 8 by USTA this week and No. 11 by the ITA computers. The top 16 seeds get to host the 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA Tournament, so these matches will be important towards achieving that goal. TCU is currently on the edge of making the NCAA Tournament and Texas Tech is ranked No. 13 by USTA and No. 15 by the ITA, so they are trying to secure a hosting spot as well.

On Friday night we will have free pizza for the match, and the OSU Alumni Association is helping us host the match. On Sunday, RCB Bank will be cooking free hot dogs prior to the match and then after, we will have a special event where Texas Roadhouse is hosting a BBQ Rib Cookoff in the parking lot just south of the tennis center. We have some celebrity guest judges and free ribs for our fans at the match and should be a fun event which will support our local Payne County Youth Services.

This event will take place right after our senior day festivities, so plan to be at the match, help us honor our seniors, and then enjoy some BBQ!

If you’ve got some down time this weekend and you’re into free food (who doesn’t love free food?!), this could be right up your alley to help support the 11th-ranked Cowgirl tennis squad. Here’s all the relevant deets for the weekend.
