2019 Lake Travis Small Forward Offered by Oklahoma State

Brad Underwood was busy on the recruiting trail in Texas on Thursday. Not only did he extend an offer to rising 2019 shooting guard De’Vion Harmon, but also to 2019 small forward prospect DJ Thorpe of Lake Travis, Texas.

As Thorpe noted, Underwood and OSU are the first school to take a chance on the rising forward. But it’s not a stretch to think he has high upside, given his genes: Thorpe is the son of former NBA player Otis Thorpe who played seven years in the league and was an All-Star in 1992, and won the NBA championship in 1994 with the Houston Rockets.
His father was a 6-foot-10, 225-lb. specimen and DJ, who is just a freshman, is already a 6-foot-7, 210-pound prospect.
Not only do I like this offer for the staff, but I like that they are willing to be the first to jump in with a scholarship. Thorpe may be a guy who ends up with double digit offers before it’s said and done given his upside and bloodline, but it says a lot about a coaching staff’s confidence in their scouting and evaluation to be first in the ring.
