The Cowboys landing in Wade Taylor’s top five is nearly two years in the making.

Taylor, a 2021 point guard from Lancaster, Texas, included OSU in his top five Monday along with Iowa State, Texas A&M, SMU and Virginia Tech. Mike Boynton and OSU offered Taylor back in 2018, the start of Taylor’s sophomore year of high school.

Who Is He?

Taylor is a 6-foot, 180-pound point guard from Lancaster, Texas.

At Lancaster High School, Taylor was part of a deadly backcourt alongside 2020 OSU offer Mike Miles, who signed with TCU. Taylor and Miles led the Tigers to a 36-1 record this past season, only losing to national power Prolific Prep and future G League star Jalen Green. Lancaster was on a 34-game win streak and in the semifinals of the Texas 5A state tournament when the pandemic stopped the season.

Taylor has played with the Adidas-sponsored Southern Assault this summer.

He has an innate ability to avoid contact and float through traffic when attacking the basket, and he can shoot well.

In the Rankings

Taylor is the No. 141 player in the 2021 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Those same rankings list him as the No. 25 point guard in the cycle and the No. 7 player out of Texas.

247Sports lists him as a three-star recruit. Rivals is higher on Taylor, though, as that service lists him as a four-star prospect and the No. 111 player in the cycle.
