Oklahoma State Shrouds Sugar Bowl QB Game in Secrecy

I’ve never really understood the point of this, but it seems to be one of Mike Gundy’s favorite holiday traditions. Keeping the whole world from knowing who’s going to play QB in the big game.

Mike Yurcich was asked on Tuesday. He gave a very Gundy-like answer.

“They’re sharing reps, and they’re both looking good and sharp, and they both have their packages,” said Yurcich. “And as we get closer to the game, we will make decisions based on the flow of the game and the productivity as well.”

The Q&A that followed was so great.

Q. What can you tell us about Mason’s skill? I assume he is limited a little bit. Is he full strength? What can you share?

“Well, he is a tremendous young man who is doing his best to prepare for this game.”

Haha!

Q. Will he play for sure?

“He is a great leader that’s really doing a great job right now in his preparation.”

So great. J.W. Walsh followed that up with another Gundy-like answer.

“It’s just exciting to know that we kind of have that edge as far as the secrecy of it,” Walsh told the Oklahoman. “And how coach Gundy kind of goes about his business has always been kind of fun. He’s always been that way.”

My official guess is that Rudolph starts and plays 50-60 percent of the game. I think we’re going to see more of Walsh but, contrary to what I thought about a week ago, I don’t think he’s going to play all or a majority of the game.
