Justice Hill Has All-Time Great Performance in Bedlam Loss

Justice Hill might be a better Joseph Randle.

Late in the third quarter of Oklahoma State’s 62-52 Bedlam loss on Saturday, Hill grabbed one of his 30 carries, took off to his right and made magic as part of his record-breaking performance. He passed Barry Sanders, who was fairly decent at OSU, as the school’s leading single-game Bedlam rusher with 228 yards.

“He’s played a lot of good games,” said Rudolph of Hill’s performance. “It’s probably up there at the top.”

Sanders posted 215 in his Heisman-winning 1988 season. This was Hill’s highlight.

And if you look from the reverse angle, the 5 starts to turn into a 1 or maybe even a 21.

Justice was served swiftly and in great quantities on Saturday. The Sooners had no shot once he got past the line of scrimmage, and more often than not, he was even great behind it, finishing with only two runs for negative yardage. His cutbacks were ferocious, and he hit his holes harder than Chris Carson did last year.

“The offensive line, receivers and all them, played great and blocked great,” Hill said. “And I was able to hit the holes they created for me.”

There was nothing not to like about Hill’s Bedlam performance. He scored twice and averaged 7.6 yards per carry after getting 8.1 in the first half alone. And in just the second quarter, Hill ran wild for 98 yards on only eight carries. That’s more than 12 yards a pop.

Quarter Carries Yards
1 8 34
2 8 98
3 8 76
4 6 20
Total 30 228

Hill’s performance was the best of his career by a mile. He had three fewer carries than his record-setting day against Texas two weeks ago. He ran for 64 more yards than his previous high, which came against Texas Tech this season. And his 7.6 average was his top mark in games with at least 20 carries, all of which might say more about an offensive line that has been ravished with injuries and criticized for underperformance.

“He’s a special kid,” Mike Gundy said postgame. “… We’re lucky to have him.”
