OSU Soccer Sent Out of NCAA Tournament in Record Fashion

Duke scored four times in 11 minutes during the first half.

The Oklahoma State soccer team fell victim to the Blue Devils’ most prolific scoring game in its illustrious NCAA Tournament history Friday night in a 7-0 loss, knocking them out in the second round with authority.

Six different Dukies scored, and two earned their first career goals in the blowout, and for OSU it was just a matter of wrong place, wrong time.

The Blue Devils found every loose ball, got on the end of every corner and seemed to convert every opportunity with clinical precision. I mean, just look at this goal.

That was a freshman who hadn’t scored all season, but she looked like an All-American with that finish.

The Cowgirls haven’t been shutout while allowing at least a touchdown of goals since 1999. Some of the OSU freshmen weren’t even born yet. Fight Club was the top movie, and Cher was at the top of the charts.

This was the fifth shutout in the NCAA Tournament in Cowgirl history and the worst of its kind by a hat trick. And OSU never really got close to scoring until the final 10 seconds as Charmé Morgan had her shot from a couple of yards out blocked and cleared.

The stats just weren’t pretty in any regard.

Duke came in as the top-seeded team in the Cowgirls’ bracket, and despite winning the Big 12 and beating Texas on the road to do so, the Longhorns were seeded higher and beat Clemson in the second round. Still, OSU was going to have to play Duke at some point, regardless of seeding.

Duke was phenomenal Friday. The stats don’t even really reflect how dominant its performance was. The Blue Devils suffocated the Cowgirls offensively. Every time a midfielder picked up the ball, at least two defenders were on her almost instantly.

When the Cowgirls tried to make a pass, the adjacent defender read it nearly every time and spurred a fastbreak the other way. OSU probably had the ball in the offensive half for as much time as it has taken you to read through this post.

OSU finishes its fifth most successful season in program history with a 16-3-3 record and what will most definitely be the biggest chip of all heading into what will be probably the most anticipated season ever next year in Stillwater.
