A Look at the Last Five Years of Big 12 Football and Where the Pokes Stand

The 2017 regular season is over, which means every team has finished its nine Big 12 games. I thought it would be interesting to look back on the last five years of Big 12 wins and losses to see how each team shakes out.

Here’s how they look over the last 45 games.

Not all of those numbers are created equal. Think about Baylor and Texas. They’re within two wins of each other, but they could not have had more different five-year stretches. I think that’s one of the things that irks Oklahoma State fans. We would trade three nine-win seasons for a 12-win season and two six-win seasons, I think. Maybe.

Anyway, I took the average points scored over the last five years for each team and made an average net. This is not a true number because I took the average of each year instead of the total of all five years divided by five, but it paints the correct picture, I think.

Oklahoma State has basically been Baylor but with more wins.

Finally, a look at the national landscape over the last five years. Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State have been in a class of their own. These are all the teams with 45+ wins (or nine wins a year for the last five years).

That 2014 season is really hurting Oklahoma State, but they’re still in some impressive company just ahead of Auburn, tied with Georgia and just behind USC, Stanford and Michigan State. Maybe not enough for some of you but impressive nonetheless.
