Oklahoma State Picked 6th in Preseason Big 12 Baseball Poll
A year after winning the Big 12 Tournament, Josh Holliday’s Oklahoma State baseball team was picked to finish sixth in the league this season. Texas Tech was tabbed as the league winner, followed by TCU, Texas, OU and West Virginia.
Oklahoma State was tied with Kansas.
| Rank | Team | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Texas Tech (5) | 61 |
| 2 | TCU (4) | 60 |
| 3 | Texas | 42 |
| 4 | Oklahoma | 40 |
| 5 | West Virginia | 38 |
| 6 | Kansas | 26 |
| Oklahoma State | 26 | |
| 8 | Baylor | 22 |
| 9 | K-State | 9 |
Under Holliday, the Cowboys have finished second, first, second, second and eighth. That’s a pretty good five-year run. He noted earlier this week that OSU is looking at not only taking the Big 12 again but beyond that as well.
“We want to win the national championship,” said Holliday. “That’s what we’re shooting to do. We’re trying to be the very best. I think when you recognize just how hard it is to do that, you have to accept that you can have a great season and a wonderful program and be doing great things every single day and maybe not win the national championship but still be winning in what your mission is.
“I think we’re winning in a lot of ways. I think we’re winning on the field with record. We’re winning through the things we’re learning from the game itself. Last year’s team, we’ve talked about several times, lessons of perseverance and never being down and out. We learned that, that’s for sure. Every year you want to see where can we take this.
“How can we grow our kids. What does that look like when the team is at it’s best. We’re here to win a national championship. We believe we can be the best. We’re going to work toward that every single day.”
His track record says they’re going to have a lot of success toward that end.
Also for fun, I compiled the preseason rankings for football, basketball and baseball this year (football was voted on by media, hoops and baseball by the coaches). Here those are.
