Chris Lacy Capitalizes on Pro Day, Weeks after Unexpected Combine Invite
Chris Lacy came back to Stillwater with a goal, and he was able to accomplish it.
The former Oklahoma State receiver ran a 4.51 40-yard dash along with a 33.5-inch vertical leap in Indianapolis during the NFL Combine, but he knew he was capable of more. He capitalized in front of plenty of NFL scouts in the Sherman E. Smith Training Center on Thursday, reaching 35.5 inches on the vertical leap and running in the “high 4.3s, low 4.4s.”
Lacy said he was discouraged throughout the season because his stats weren’t impressive, especially when compared to fellow pass-catchers Marcell Ateman and James Washington.
Lacy caught 20 passes for 264 yards and had no touchdowns in 2017, but after getting invited to the combine and excelling in his Pro Day, he feels differently. A couple of weeks ago, he was walking to class when he was checking his email to see if his class was canceled. Then, he saw an NFL Combine invite in his inbox.
“I don’t even remember what we talked about in class that day,” Lacy said. “ … It feels like a fresh start. I just thank God that I have the opportunity to take my talents to the next level.”
Although he doesn’t know where he’ll land, Lacy said the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings talked to him Thursday.
Looking forward, Lacy said he’ll continue working out. He said there are some teams that will want some private workouts, but he’s also hoping for a few visits from teams as he prepares for the NFL Draft.
