Chasing History: Hill Nears 3,000 Career Rushing Yards
#5 Continues to Solidify himself in the record books
Note: This article previously stated Justice Hill had more than 3,000 rushing yards. After some further number crunching (I’m not sure where I got off, honestly) that isn’t the case. All of the numbers are updated to reflect Hill’s current career statistics.
Saturday’s game wasn’t a good one for Oklahoma State, but Justice Hill is nearing another career milestone.
Hill’s 111 rushing yards against Texas Tech put him 3 away from 3,000 career yards. Hill didn’t move up in OSU’s Top 10 list this week in rushing yards, but he’s catching eighth-place Joseph Randle’s 3,085 career yards.
Name | Yards | Years Active |
---|---|---|
Thurman Thomas | 5,001 | 1984-87 |
Terry Miller | 4,754 | 1974-77 |

Joseph Randle | 3,085 | 2010-12 |
Justice Hill | 2,097 | 2016-present |
Gerald Hudson | 2,924 | 1988-90 |
Hill is at 26 career rushing touchdowns, putting him a score away from three other players.
The OG Bob Fenimore is only two touchdowns ahead of him.

David Thompson | 27 | 1993-96 |
Keith Toston | 27 | 2006-09 |
Justice Hill | 26 | 2016-present |
Hill’s 9.3 yards per carry against Texas Tech gave a slight bump to his career average, but it hasn’t yet pushed him up any higher in OSU’s record book.
Hill is ever-so-slightly gaining on OSU’s leaders, with Vernand Morency next above him at 5.9.
Name | Yards Per Carry (min: 200) | Years Active |
---|---|---|

Terry Miller | 5.45 | 1974-77 |
Saturday was Hill’s 30th game at OSU. Barry Sanders, the yards per game leader at 118.7, played in 32 games at OSU. Hill would need some Herculean numbers to catch Sanders by his 32nd game, but for now Hill is slowly creeping up on Thurman Thomas, not bad company.
Name | Yards Per Game (min: 20) | Years Active |
---|---|---|
Barry Sanders | 118.7 | 1986-88 |
Terry Miller | 113.2 | 1974-77 |

Hill getting only 12 carries against Tech is somewhat controversial, but they were enough to put him ninth in school history.
Hill passed Keith Toston (511) and Gerald Hudson (515) this week. He has a bit to go before he climbs another spot, as Sanders sits in eighth at 558.
