Bowl Projections: Oregon in the Alamo Sounds Delicious

Where will the Pokes end up in the postseason?

The season is nearly halfway (!) over, which means bowl projections certainly carry a lot more weight now than they did a few weeks (or even a month) ago. Is Oklahoma State likely to play in one of these projected bowls? I have no idea. It seems like the volatility of this team is as wide as we’ve seen in the modern Mike Gundy era (2010-present).

It’s definitely a lot of fun to look at (and probably more enjoyable than discussing anything that happened on the field against Kansas). So here are six projections for where the Pokes might be spending Christmas or New Year’s.

ESPN 1: Alamo Bowl (Oregon)
ESPN 2: Liberty Bowl (Texas A&M)
USA Today: Texas Bowl (Mississippi State)
SI: Liberty Bowl (Missouri)
SB Nation: Liberty Bowl (Texas A&M)
CBS: Cheez-It Bowl (California)

Oregon in the Alamo Bowl feels like possibly a ceiling of sorts for this team. I would sign up for that right now, no questions asked. Cal in the Cheez-It Bowl feels like something I made up. It’s a real thing, though.

A SEC team in the Liberty Bowl or Texas Bowl feels like the most likely scenario at this point based on how this team has played and will likely finish out the season.

Who knows, though. I thought Bill Haisten’s piece on how this Iowa State game will be telling for whether we’re getting a 2013/2016 redux was pretty on point. I personally don’t believe we’ll be getting that because I think this team has too many holes because of injury and lack of experience at QB.

Those holes will hamper their chances of bursting to the finish line over the next 50 days and probably mean it will be more a long, slow slog to the end.

But hey, I’ve never been considered the super optimistic one around here. Maybe they found their OL in Lawrence and Corndog flips a switch at the midway point. Again, Iowa State will be telling.
