Game 7 Grades: Offensive Struggles Shown on K-State Report Card
This game was ugly.
From nearly everything Oklahoma State did on offense to Skylar Thompson taking a sack without a timeout at the end of the half, it wasn’t easy on the eye.
Here are my grades from OSU’s 31-12 loss to Kansas State.
Taylor Cornelius: C-
This was definitely Taylor Cornelius’ worst game.
Less than a 50 percent completion percentage, no passing touchdowns and two interceptions just isn’t going to do it.
With that said I’m not convinced it was all on Cornelius, as he didn’t get much help from a running game, as Cornelius was OSU’s leading rusher with 55 yards and OSU’s only touchdown. So that’s why he narrowly avoided D/F range for me. Still, though, something has to change whether that be at quarterback or the schemes surrounding him.
Play Calling: D-
So Justice Hill is one of the best players in the Big 12, and you’re going to hand him the ball 11 times?
I thought a few drives were pieces of art. Plays where Hill and Hubbard shared the backfield, and the K-State defense wasn’t sure who to follow were brilliant. But then OSU decided, “Nah, let’s just chunk it downfield and see what happens.”
Something has to change on the goal line. The inability to get a yard is likely an offensive line issue, but go under center and have Cornelius fall forward. Or, lineup in a wildcat formation to have extra blockers and run forward.
Defense: C+
OSU’s defense didn’t play too terribly.
At some point against Kansas State, you’d expect OSU to score some points, forcing K-State to have to throw, something the Wildcats aren’t too comfortable with. That point never came.
The Wildcats had 3 points at halftime. Then the OSU D got grinded down with rush after rush after rush because K-State was never forced to throw. The Wildcats had 22 passes to 55 rushes.
Offense Overall: F
You can’t score 12 points in a Big 12 game and expect to win.
