Daniel Cormier Successfully Defends Heavyweight Title at UFC 230
The former Cowboy displayed his wrestling skills in the big win.
Former Oklahoma State wrestler, and UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champ, Daniel Cormier successfully defended his UFC heavyweight title on Saturday night againt Derrick Lewis.
Lewis is known for his heavy hands and striking power, but Cormier clearly showed you have to be able to wrestle to make a fight interesting against him. Early in the first round they exchanged some shots then Cormier took Lewis down, with relative ease, and pounded him for the rest of the first round.
In the second round they stood and exchanged some shots again. Lewis, a very dangerous striker, landed one pretty solid hit, but it was still all Cormier.
Cormier eventually took him down again and gave Lewis the first submission of his career.

The projected next fight for Cormier is against Brock Lesnar. No date has been set for the Lesnar fight, but it’s certain to be a massive tilt, and a big pay check for Cormier.
