OSU Wrestling: Joe Smith Wins Wrestle-off to be Postseason Starter at 165
Smith beats Rogers 3-2 and 7-4 to take the starting job.
All Americans Joe Smith and Chandler Rogers had a wrestle-off Monday night to determine the postseason starter at 165 pounds for the Cowboys.
Smith took the best of three series in two matches, as first reported by USA Wrestling. He won the first 3-2 and took the second 7-4. The Big 12 tournament this weekend will be Joe’s first competition at 165 pounds this season.
Rogers finished out his career at OSU with a 94-25 record and two All-America honors. His final college match was one for the books. He brought a near record crowd to their feet in Gallagher-Iba, when he pinned Mitch Bowman to help the Cowboys knock off rival Iowa.
