Tylan Wallace, Chuba Hubbard and Johnny Wilson Make Preseason Watch Lists
It’s officially #WatchListSZN.
With now weeks, not months, to go before we get some actual college football, it’s officially #WatchListSZN.
Earlier this week, OSU’s dynamic duo of Chuba Hubbard and Tylan Wallace were included on the Maxwell Award watch list, for college football’s player of the year. Now the pair have each been recognized as potential candidates for awards specific to their positions, along with returning center Johnny Wilson.
Wallace was included on the Biletnikoff Award watch list. After being named a finalist for last year’s award, his inclusion was just a formality. Wallace was named a first-team All-American as true sophomore finishing second nationally with 1,491 receiving yards and was third with 114.7 yards per game.
Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy, who edged out Wallace for the trophy, is also on the list. As are six other Big 12 players including CeeDee Lamb and Grant Calcaterra from OU, Jalen Reagor from TCU, Collin Johnson from Texas, and Denzel Mims from Baylor.
Chuba Hubbard was added to the Doak Walker Award watch list, a trophy given to college football’s top running back. Hubbard took the reins of the Cowboys’ rushing attack when Justice Hill went down late in the year and finished with 740 yards rushing, 229 yards receiving and nine scores while starting only three games.
Hubbard joins TCU’s Darius Anderson and Texas RB Keaontay Ingram as the only three Big 12 rushers included in the 71-player watch list.
Johnny Wilson was named to the Rimington Trophy watch list given to the nation’s top center. Other Big 12 inclusions are Kansas State’s Adam Holtorf, Iowa State’s Colin Newell, Oklahoma’s Creed Humphrey, TCU’s Kellton Hollins and Texas’ Zach Shackelford.
