Tylan Wallace a ‘Player to Watch’ for Walter Camp Player of the Year Award
Tylan has found himself on yet another preseason watch list.
Adding to his growing list of preseason honors, Tylan Wallace was named as a “player to watch” for the 2019 Walter Camp Award.
The award is given annually to college football’s Player of the Year as voted on by FBS coaches and sports directors and presented by the Walter Camp Foundation. Oklahoma State has had one winner in its history. You guessed it, Barry Sanders.
Wallace (who earned a spot on the Walter Camp second-team All-American list last season), was also a first-teamer according to The Sporting News and ESPN, and was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award. His 1,491 receiving yards ranked second nationally.
Tylan was already named to watch lists for the Biletnikoff Award and the Maxwell Award.
The Walter Camp preseason watch list includes 40 players, but there are just five wide receivers — Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy (who won a popularity contest over Tylan won the 2018 Biletnikoff), Purdue’s Rondale Moore, TCU’s Jalen Reagor and Colorado’s Laviska Shenault.
For reference, those are Nos. 10, 11, 26 and 34 on last year’s list of leaders in total receiving yards.
The other three members of the watch list from the Big 12 are Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, Texas QB Sam Ehlinger and Reagor.
The list will be whittled down to 10 semifinalists in November and the winner will be announced live on ESPN on Thursday, December 12. The award will be formally handed out at the Walter Camp Foundation’s awards banquet on January 18, 2020 in New Haven, Connecticut.
