Daton Fix Falls at World Championships
Fix eliminated after controversial bout with former World Champion
Early Thursday morning Daton Fix made his senior-level World Championships debut in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
It started well. Daton matched up with Vladimir Egorov of North Macedonia in the first round. Fix was dominant. He picked Egorov apart and finished with a 12-1 technical superiority.

In his second bout he matched up with 2017 World Champion Yuki Takahashi of Japan. Fix lost 4-2 but, like many of these UWW matches, it wasn’t without controversy.

Fix was put on the shot clock around a minute and a half into the match and was not able to score and gave up a shot clock point. Fix responded immediately after the break with a takedown to go up 2-1. Then Fix was put on the shot clock again and unable to score again. This notched the match at 2-2, but left Fix leading on criteria.
Then during this exchange a step-out point was called putting Takahashi up 3-2.
Fix’s corner challenged, but the challenge failed and fix fell to last year’s runner up 4-2.
Fix needed Takahashi to continue to win in to be brought back in, but Takahashi lost his next match and Daton was eliminated from the tournament.
Now we wait to hear Daton’s decision on whether or not he’ll take an Olympic redshirt this year.
