Former In-State Standout Recruit Collin Clay Transferring from Arkansas

Defensive end prospect Collin Clay was a long-time Oklahoma State target before eventually committing to Arkansas during his recruitment in the 2019 cycle, but now he’s back on the market. According to multiple reports on Friday, the Oklahoma City-area native has entered the transfer portal and exploring the process of leaving Arkansas, the place he spent the last year.

Clay attended Putnam City and earned four-star status as a recruit. He committed to the Razorbacks over OSU, Baylor, Colorado, Duke and others late in the recruiting process. He visited OSU on several occasions but chose the Hogs. Now that the program has moved on from head coach Chad Morris though, he could wind up elsewhere — including OSU.

As a freshman last season, Clay played in 11 games and finished with 11 tackles overall. Because of the head coaching change, it’s possible he could get a waiver to play elsewhere without sitting a year as NCAA rules typically dictate. The same situation happened last year when Israel Antwine played a year at Colorado then transferred to OSU; he got a waiver and played last season because Colorado underwent a coaching change.

If OSU could snag Clay, it’d be a huge boon. In the 2020 class, OSU has just one commitment at defensive end (Tyren Irby). Adding a transfer like Clay could help OSU as it loses Mike Scott this offseason.
