Cormier Offers to Cover Anthony Ashnault’s Lost Sponsor Money after ScrapLife Split
Cormier steps in as Ashnault walks out.
There was a bit of controversy in the wrestling community this weekend as ScrapLife, a wrestling apparel and clothing company, posted this to the companies official Facebook account this weekend.
Naturally, the post was met with a lot of criticism. Initially the company claimed they were hacked, then later they released the following statement, which has now been removed from their social media pages:
Following the initial Facebook post and this release, 2019 NCAA Champion Anthony Ashnault announced that he would be cutting ties with the organization.
I have informed ScrapLife that I am terminating our relationship effective immediately

Shortly after Ashnault’s announcement, former Cowboy All-American, Daniel Cormier, announced he would cover any money Ashnault would be walking away from.
Good on you Anthony. Please contact me on what you were getting. I am gonna make sure whatever you’re walking away from you will get! #moralsovermoney DC https://t.co/7SvTE8Ky4y

Not long after Ashnault made his announcement, Seth Gross made the same move in stepping away from ScrapLife. ScrapLife, who predominately sponsors former Penn State athletes, lost another athlete the next day as Zain Retherford made this announcement.
After a lot of reflection I have decided to end my contract with ScrapLife.

The next shoe dropped as Joey McKenna announced he would be ending his agreement with ScrapLife on Monday. Scrap Life has now lost four of their athletes since the Facebook post on Friday. The company now only lists Thomas Gilman, Bo Nickal, Jason Nolf, and David Taylor as athletes on their roster. Each of these athletes train at the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club in State College, PA.
