OSU Jumps One Spot in Big 12 Recruiting Rankings With Addition of Makale Smith

Oklahoma State jumped Kansas State in the Big 12 recruiting rankings this weekend with the commitment of Midwest City athlete Makale Smith, bumping the Pokes up to No. 8 in the conference ahead of the TCU and K-State.

It’s the highest the Pokes have ranked in this cycle to date after sluggishly starting the class. They were ranked last out of the gate but have added four of their seven commitments in the last month, including top-rated commit Collin Oliver.

Smith ranks last in the 247Sports Composite rankings of the seven with an 84.10 grade — making him a three-star recruit. He’s the seventh of seven three-star pledges for OSU in the class (though Oliver and Ty Williams are rated by 247’s staff as four-star recruits).

Here’s an updated look at the rankings where Texas remains atop the league ahead of Baylor and OU.

As always, though, the context matters. Per-commitment averages better indicate how a particular program will finish than total recruiting rankings at this stage, given that quantity over quality is favored until classes are final. And on a per-commitment average, OSU ranks one spot above its current standing, at eight, ahead of TCU, Kansas and Iowa State. Texas still stands at the top in this grouping but Baylor, which has a whopping 15 commitments already, falls to No. 6, and Iowa State, with 14 commitments, falls from No. 5 to dead last.

OSU should be on track to continue its rise this week and beyond with several more commitments to come.
