Three-Star Safety Lyrik Rawls Puts Oklahoma State in Final Five
Can OSU add a fifth defensive back to its 2021 class?
Lyrik Rawls is down to four Big 12 schools and Houston.
Rawls, a three-star safety in the 2021 class, announced his final five Thursday evening. Rawls’ fab five are Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Kansas, TCU and Houston.

Who Is He?
Rawls is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety for Marshall High School (Texas). He played his sophomore season at Jefferson, both schools are near the Louisiana border in Texas.
247Sports doesn’t list his junior season stats, but as a sophomore at Jefferson, Rawls recorded 94 tackles, two tackles for loss, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two interceptions (one of which he scored off).
With Marshall this past season, Rawls also played receiver, where he was able to show off his speed and solid ball skills. Behind Rawls, Marshall finished the 2019 season 7-4 and made a playoff appearance.
Rawls will probably need to add a bit of weight, but he isn’t afraid of contact. He threw some nasty blocks as a receiver this past season, blocks that Tylan Wallace has gotten penalized for in the past.
In late May, Rawls got two crystal ball predictions that landed him at SMU. Something must have changed, though, with the Mustangs not even making it in his top five.
In the Rankings
Rawls is a consensus three-star recruit on the major services.
He is the No. 537 player in the 2021 cycle, according to the composite ranking. That makes him the No. 39 safety and No. 76 Texan in the class.
Rawls’ Final Five Timeline
Sept. 11 — Texas Tech offers
Sept. 28 — Houston offers
Jan. 2 — Oklahoma State offers
Jan. 27 — Kansas offers
April 6 — TCU offers
OSU’s 2021 Secondary
The Cowboys already have a sizable class of secondary prospects that Rawls could add to.
OSU already has commits from Ty Williams, Raymond Gay, Cam Smith and Makale Smith, all of whom are expected to be defensive backs in Stillwater. Of that group, though, only Williams is rated higher that Rawls.
