Alex Dieringer has Surgery to Repair ACL
Dieringer says he’ll do everything in his power to be ready for the Olympic Trials
Alex Dieringer posted on Instagram on Thursday that he had surgery on his knee to repair his ACL and miniscus.
The surgery took place on Wednesday and it sounds as though Dieringer still hopes to compete in the Olympic Trials. The trials were originally scheduled for early April 2020 before the Olympics was postponed until 2021. Meaning if they keep the same trial dates, Dieringer will have a five-month recovery time from his surgery for the trials.
According to the Mayo Clinic it can take from eight to 12 months before an athlete is ready to start competing again after ACL surgery.
This is certainly a significant blow to Dieringer’s training plans for the Olympics and unfortunately looks like it could very possibly keep him out of the 2021 Olympic Trials.
Dieringer’s last competition before the surgery was at the initial Nittany Lion Wrestling Club event where he fell to Bo Nickal.
