NFL Highlights: Dez Bryant Makes Plays and Tyron Johnson’s Play Demands the Ball
Keep your eye peeled for Justice Hill on Thanksgiving.
Several former Pokes made plays this weekend in the NFL. Let’s get to the highlights and updates concerning former Cowboys from Week 11.
Dez Bryant Back in Action
Dez Bryant saw his first catches in three years on Sunday during his Ravens’ 30-24 overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans — and Bryant was pretty efficient with them.
He caught four of the five footballs thrown at him for 28 yards. Here was the first.
And here’s a nice play by Dez that kept a would-be game-tying drive alive in the fourth quarter.
Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh is pleased with the progress Dez has made in just his second game back, but thinks he’s still a ways from reaching his potential in the Ravens offense.
“Keep building on it, see where it goes,” Harbaugh said according to the team’s website. “I thought he made some good plays, especially one towards the end that was a very valuable play for us, a catch-and-run.
“There’s a lot of things he can do better. He and I texted back and forth about those things this morning. He’s very determined to be the best player he can be at this stage. We appreciate that.”
Throw. Tyron. The. Ball. More.
Tyron Johnson caught another deep ball on Sunday as the Chargers earned their second win of the year, a 34-28 victory over the New York Jets. It was his third catch of at least 50 yards, and just his third catch of the year.
With four targets and catches of 53, 50 and 54 yards, Tyron is averaging a ???-worthy 39.3 yards per target.
Throw. Tyron. The. Ball. More.
Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn may be coming around to that idea.
Look Out for Justice on Thanksgiving
Justice will get his chance to shine on one of the biggest football stages of the year.
Hill has fallen down the Raven’s RB depth chart in Year 2. He’s seen most of his reps on special teams and has just one catch and no carries, but keep your eyes aimed at the Ravens’ backfield for him on Thursday.
Ravens RBs Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins were placed on COVID/IR on Monday leaving Hill and Gus Edwards as the only active running backs on Baltimore’s roster for the Turkey Day matchup with the Steelers.
Former Bedlam foe, Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, has faith in Hill.
“You look at Gus and Justice, those two guys are incredible athletes, incredible players, and they’re going to do their job just fine and hold that torch and do their thing,” Andrews said according to the team’s site. “There’s no worries there.”
Ogbah’s Streak Ends
Emmanuel Ogbah’s streak of six-straight weeks with a sack came to an end on Sunday, as did Miami’s streak of five-straight wins.
But he did record three total tackles and a tackle for loss during the Dolphins’ 20-13 loss to the Broncos.
Ogbah is still T-5th in the NFL with eight sacks and he’s T-3rd with three forced fumbles. His numbers and strong play have earned the former Cowboy some Pro Bowl buzz.
Brad Lundblade Signs with Seattle
Former OSU center Brad Lundblade is getting a shot to be reunited with his former teammates Chris Carson and Tre Flowers in Seattle. He was signed to the Seahawks’ practice squad on Monday.
Lundblade originally signed with Seattle after going undrafted in 2018 but was waived three days later and moved on to the Cincinnati Bengals. He’s also spent time on the New York Jets’ and Carolina Panthers’ rosters. He appeared in one game with the Panthers in 2019.
Other Notes
• Tre Flowers had a nice outing during the Seahawks’ 28-21 win over Arizona, holding DeAndre Hopkins to just five catches on eight targets for a pedestrian 51 yards.
• Chris Carson missed his fourth straight game with a foot sprain but is “likely” to return for the Seahawks’ Monday Night matchup with the Eagles next week.
