Dominic Richardson Named to Doak Walker Preseason Watch List
Richardson has averaged 4.8 yards a carry to this point in his career.
With Jaylen Warren and LD Brown gone, Dominic Richardson will be the workhorse in Oklahoma State’s backfield in 2022, and the preseason watch lists reflect that.
Richardson was one of 73 named on the Doak Walker Award’s preseason list Wednesday. The Doak Walker is given out annually to college football’s best running back, and no Cowboy has won the award since its debut in 1990.
Entering his junior season, Richardson has ran for 596 yards and seven touchdowns on 123 career carries to this point. When he has been asked to carry the load early in his career, the former Bishop McGuinness standout has produced.
As a true freshman against Baylor in 2020, Richardson toted the rock 23 times where he had 169 yards and three scores. He also got a lot of work against TCU last season in which he ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns on 11.2 yards per carry.
Richardson was a three-star prospect in the 2020 class. He initially signed with TCU out of high school but ended up enrolling at Oklahoma State after getting out of his letter of intent.
Other Big 12 backs on the watch list are Oklahoma’s Eric Gray, Texas’ Roschon Johnson, Texas’ Bijan Robinson, TCU’s Kendre Miller, Kansas’ Devin Neal and Kansas State’s Deuce Vaughn.
Semifinalists and finalists for the Doak Walker Award will be named in November, with the hardware set to be handed out at the college football awards show Dec. 8.
