Transfer Guard Javon Small Down to OSU, OU as he Approaches Final Decision
It’s a Bedlam battle for a big time portal talent.
East Carolina transfer guard Javon Small, one of the top overall talents in the portal, is down to two schools: OSU and OU.
247Sports’ Travis Branham reported Friday that Small has eliminated the other OSU — Ohio State — leaving the Bedlam schools as his two finalists to battle it out. Both OU and OSU are expected to land visits from Small this week.
Small is a 6-foot-2 guard who averaged 15.8 points, 5.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds on 39.7% shooting as a sophomore with ECU this past season. He suffered a knee injury during the season that kept him to playing in only 18 games, but his production was commensurate with one of the best talents at the point guard position among high-major producers; his 35.5% assist rate was top-20 among all Division I players last season.
Small figures to be a major priority for OSU in the portal after losing Avery Anderson and Caleb Asberry. OSU combo guard John-Michael Wright is returning for another season, but adding another playmaker and ball-handler (bonus points if he can shoot!) should be top of the list for the Pokes after struggling to take care of the ball last season, making Small a great fit.
