Jackson Holliday Promoted to High-A in Orioles Organization after Strong Showing in Low-A
The former OSU signee has made a great first impression as a pro.
No. 1 overall pick Jackson Holliday, Matt Holliday’s son and a former OSU signee, has not been a professional baseball player for long — but he’s already making quite the impression on his employer. Holliday this week earned a promotion from Low-A Delmarva to High-A Aberdeen after just 13 games, during which he was slashed an impressive .392/.523/.667 to go with 15 RBIs and two homers.
Holliday was somewhat surprisingly sent to Low-A earlier this year after a strong showing there in 2022, but he quickly proved he was, clearly, better than that level. He compiled a .772 OPS in 12 appearances there in 2022 and dominated both with his bat and his glove with the Shorebirds, earning a quick call-up to the High-A level.
“It’s awesome to be able to get into an organization that is heading in such a great direction,” Holliday told MLB.com last summer after getting drafted No. 1 by the Orioles. “I’m hoping that I can get [to Baltimore] fast and contribute in a good way.”
So far, he’s well on his way to fulfilling his own prophecy.
Holliday will be the youngest player on the High-A Aberdeen club but the most promising prospect, too, as he rates as the No. 10 overall player in the MLB Pipeline prospect top 100 rankings. At just 19 years old he is quickly rising in baseball circles as one of the best young prospects in the game.
“It sounds like he got off to a great start in Low A, and we’re happy he’s being promoted,” Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde said this week via The Athletic. “He was really impressive in major-league spring training. He’s gonna be a really good player. What is he, still 19? So, it was fun to watch him, fun to be around him this spring, and he’s a very talented kid.”
