Get to Know Oklahoma State TE Josiah Johnson

Josiah Johnson is here to bring the tight end back to Oklahoma State.

Last season was the last of the Cowboy back hybrid position, bringing back tight ends and fullbacks to OSU’s roster. That’s ultimately what brought Johnson to Stillwater after five years at UMass.

Johnson caught his first touchdown with the Cowboys for OSU’s first points Saturday night against Cincinnati. Nothing says utilizing a tight end like starting a play under center before hitting Johnson streaking down the field for a 29-yard score.

This season, Johnson has 12 catches for 112 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown catch was his longest reception on the season.

Johnson, a sixth-year senior, transferred from UMass, where he caught 50 passes for 465 yards and five touchdowns. He has a huge presence at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds.

Last season was Johnson’s best, statistically, catching 24 passes for 163 yards. He caught three touchdowns as a redshirt junior– a career best.

Johnson also played quarterback some for the Minutemen in special packages. He even split time between TE and QB in a COVID-shortened four-game 2020 season.

Johnson was a three-star recruit out of Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida. At Bolles, Johnson excelled in a Wing T system as a quarterback.
