Lindy Waters Signs Multi-Year Deal with OKC Thunder
From Norman North to Oklahoma State to NBA contract.
The NBA trade deadline turned out to be a big positive for Norman North-turned-Oklahoma State-turned-OKC Thunder hooper Lindy Waters.
The Thunder announced Friday that Waters has been signed to a multi-year deal. Waters had been on a two-way contract with the Thunder and the OKC Blue up until this point. The move was made possible because the Thunder traded three players for Gordon Hayward, leaving open roster spots to fill.
Funnily enough, OSU coach Mike Boynton spoke about Waters on Thursday.
“Lindy always believed that he could play in the NBA,” Boynton said. “I think the thing that I always thought would give him a chance was the thing that’s giving him a chance, which is his size and his IQ for the game. He’s playing in the perfect organization for it. They really value what he brings to the table.”
Waters came to OSU as the No. 161 player in his high school recruiting class out of Norman North.
He played in 121 games in four seasons at OSU, making 105 starts. He ranks 31st in program history in career points with 1,152, averaging 12.2 a game as a junior and 10.5 a game as a senior. He was a career 39% 3-point shooter in college, knocking down 177 (tied for 11th in program history).
In 87 games with the Thunder across the past three seasons, Waters averages 5.4 points and 1.9 rebounds a game. He is a career 37% 3-point shooter and is shooting a career-high 42% from deep this season.
In four games with the Blue (the Thunder’s G League affiliate) this season, Waters averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals a game. And he did all that while shooting a ridiculous 52% from 3.
