Mike Boynton Releases Statement Thanking Many for His Time at OSU, Wishes Program Well Moving Forward

The grace that Mike Boynton conducted himself with in his time as the Cowboys’ coach was true until the very end.

Boynton, Oklahoma State’s now former coach after being fired Thursday, released a video via his Twitter account Thursday evening thanking many for his time in Stillwater and wishing well for the program moving forward:

“He Cowboy fans, this is Mike Boynton — just wanted to tell you guys thanks,” Boynton said. “It’s been the honor of Jenny [Boynton’s wife] and I’s past seven years to be the head coach here, and today that time comes to an end.

“No hard feelings. Certainly appreciative for Mike Holder giving me the opportunity seven years ago to lead this program, a great program it is that deserves great results. We haven’t delivered great results and therefore, we’re moving on.

“We thank everybody who supported us. We thank everybody who’s criticized during this time. It’s all made us better. It’s all made us grow.

“There will be a time to reflect on all the things that happened between March 24, 2017 and today, but today’s not that day. Today’s a day of reflection and thankfulness. I’m thankful for Chad (Weiberg), for Mike Holder, for the board of regents, all for supporting me and supporting my family. Thank you to my players. Thank you to my staff. Thank you to the fans, the students on campus. Thank you to everyone who has taken a part in this last seven years’ journey.

“We look forward to the next guy being a little bit more successful and hopefully getting this program the championship it deserves. I leave here humbly and thankfully and prayerfully. As always, I appreciate you. Go Pokes. See you guys soon.”

The results weren’t there in Boynton’s seven seasons, but he led the program through a lot and did so very eloquently. From the FBI investigation, to having open walk-on tryouts, to the pandemic, to recruiting the No. 1 draft pick, it was quite the ride.
