KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Cowboys went 7-3 in the opening session of the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
After Session I in T-Mobile Center, Oklahoma State ranks 10th in a tight team race.
Troy Spratley, Daton Fix, Jordan Williams, Teague Travis, Izzak Olejnik, Dustin Plott and Konner Doucet won in the session while Tagen Jamison, Brayden Thompson and Luke Surber fell to the consolation bracket.
Fix and Plott won via tech fall, giving the Cowboys a little extra in the team race.
But the biggest result of the session for the Cowboys likely came at 149 pounds. Coming off an injury-default defeat in the Big 12 final, Jordan Williams bested Iowa’s Caleb Rathjen 12-5. Williams is the 20 seed and Rathjen is the 13.
Williams entered the third period trailing 3-2 but scored a pair of takedowns and four near-fall points in the final frame.
The PFB crew is rolling three-deep in KC. Devin Wilber is roaming the mats with his camera. Here are some of his best shots from the first session. You can see his full gallery here. You can also see our match-by-match live updates here.
Session 2 starts at 6 p.m. Thursday and will be televised on ESPN.
