OSU Wrestling: Wisconsin Transfer Dean Hamiti Commits to Cowboys
Hamiti is a two-time All-American.
John Smith seems to have secured his next 165-pounder.
Dean Hamiti announced via Instagram and X on Wednesday that he committed to Oklahoma State after transferring from Wisconsin, where he was a two-time All-American. Hamiti became the biggest name in the transfer portal when his decision was reported Monday.
Excited to announce my commitment to Oklahoma state, it’s been a dream of mine since I was little, I wanted to wrestle as a cowboy! Thank you to everyone at Wisconsin for the time spent. I’m excited for my next chapter chasing titles for OSU pic.twitter.com/8Mqq1W2LQy

Hamiti placed sixth at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in 2022 and 2023 before losing to OSU’s Izzak Olejnik in the blood rounds this season. Olejnik transferred from Northern Illinois last year before placing fifth at the NCAA tournament in his only season in Stillwater. With Olejnik out of eligibility, OSU’s 165-pound spot appeared to be vacant and will now likely be filled by Hamiti.
The Cowboys will now have two returning All-Americans next season with Hamiti and Dustin Plott, who was the NCAA runner-up at 184 pounds. Daton Fix was also a runner-up at 133 pounds but exhausted his eligibility, leaving 133 and 165 as OSU’s only weights without a returning starter.
The Cowboys could look within to fill Fix’s spot at 133, though, with highly touted recruits Zach Blankenship and Cael Hughes already in the room.
