Boynton could soon be a Michigan man.
Former Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton’s next move appears to be taking shape.
Boynton is soon expected to take an assistant role with Michigan and new coach Dusty May, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander. Norlander reports that Boynton had other high-major options, but May made getting Boynton on his staff a priority.

So after seven seasons as a head coach, it appears Boynton is moving back to an assistant role. At just 42, he still has a lot of runway in front of him, however. For instance, OSU hire Will Lutz was considered an up-and-coming option, and he is 52.
This will be Boynton’s sixth stop as an assistant, joining Coastal Carolina (2005-07), Wofford (2007-08), South Carolina (2008-13), Stephen F. Austin (2013-16) and Oklahoma State (2016-17). Boynton went to one tournament as the Cowboys’ head man, accumulating a 119-109 record in his seven seasons.
Michigan fired alum Juwan Howard after five seasons in which the Wolverines went 87-72 and made two NCAA Tournaments. Michigan was 8-24 this past season.
The Wolverines essentially kicked off the coaching carousel this season by hiring May. May went 126-69 in six seasons at Florida Atlantic, leading the Owls to the Final Four last season.
