OSU Freshman Preston Stout Sinks Long Putt to Earn Share of Big 12 Title
He becomes the third OSU freshman to win the Big 12 individual title.
The Cowboys might just have their next guy.
Preston Stout on Wednesday hit a long putt to earn a share of the Big 12 individual title at Whispering Pines in Trinity, Texas. The putt was for birdie on the 18th hole and put Stout at 9-under for the tournament, tying with TCU’s Gustav Frimodt and Cincinnati’s Ty Gingerich, who are both seniors.

Stout finished the four-round event with a 9-under 279, shooting below 70 in his final three rounds. His best round of the tournament came Tuesday, when he shot a 67.
He became the 11th Cowboy to capture a Big 12 individual title and just the third Cowboy freshman to do so, joining Rickie Fowler (2008) and Morgan Hoffman (2009). Stout is the first Cowboy to win the tournament regardless of class since Kristoffer Ventura won in 2018.
As a team, the Cowboys finished third at a 2-under 1,150 — that’s five shots back of Oklahoma in second. Texas ran away with the event, finishing with a team tally of 25-under 1,127.
Aside from Stout, OSU’s other finishers were Rayhan Thomas (T23), Gaven Lane (T34), Jonas Baumgartner (T34) and Bon Jin (46).
