We finally have our first look at the Cowboys in EA Sports’ upcoming College Football 25 video game.

EA released a video and a blog Friday morning going over some of the game’s new features, and the video starts with reigning Doak Walker winner Ollie Gordon.

Let’s break down everything we can see in this clip. This all comes with the caveat of the tag “GAMEPLAY NOT FINAL. REPRESENTS A GAME IN DEVELOPMENT” that ran across the bottom of the video.

Ollie

Gordon looks like a man among boys slashing through this virtual Ole Miss defense. It’s almost uncanny how much virtual Ollie Gordon looks like real life Ollie Gordon. Here is a picture of ours of Gordon in the same uniform combination. My only slight nitpick is that Gordon’ virtual hair is a little longer than his actual hair.

We also got some sort of idea as to how Gordon will play. Players in the game can have special abilities and when the video was discussing that, it brought up this card of Gordon:

Abilities are broken down into bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Gordon’s side step, balanced and workhorse abilities are all platinum. In a screenshot that we’ll get to in a moment, it appears Gordon has five platinum abilities and two gold ones.

If the screenshot is tough to read, here is what they say:

Side Step: Ultimate juke moves for responsiveness and faking out defenders
Balanced: Ultimate ability to break hit stick and strip attempts
Workhorse: Ultimate protection from Wear and Tear effects when colliding with other players

Basically, Gordon is going to be a lot of fun to use.

We also get a look at what BPS, with the best look coming from EA’s blog on the gameplay features.

Sidelines: tight. Videoboard: gigantic. Turf: vibrant. 1945 national title: claimed. It’s a thing of beauty.

They even went as far as to show Bennett Hall if you look in the upper-lefthand corner.

We got a slight look at the other view from that first screenshot I showed, where you can see the west end zone in all its glory. It’s outstanding. The only thing I notice is missing is OSU’s newly implemented Ring of Honor, but that could be more of a licensing thing that anything and really isn’t too big a deal.

Other Notes

The uniforms are beautiful. It’s a shame we’ll have to wait to see what the Cursive Cowboys lid looks like in virtual form, but it’s sure to be magnificent. But the white-orange-white combo we got to see looks spot on, and that’s a good thing.

The wider screenshot also shows the rest of the OSU offense. It appears Brennan Presley, Rashod Owens and Alan Bowman also have special abilities, with Presley rocking a star under his player like Gordon. It’s also the first look we get at De’Zhaun Stribling in the No. 1 jersey.

As Justin Southwell pointed out, the wideview screenshot also shows Bowman under center. That’s made even more notable by the fact that in this teaser, EA Sports is showing off how the teams will play like their real-life counterparts. The blog said more than 1,500 new plays and more than 50 formations were added to the game.

EA Sports College Football 25 releases July 19.
