Three Cowboys Earn Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Oklahoma State flexed its brain and its brawn this past spring.

The Big 12 announced Wednesday its Spring Scholar-Athletes of the Year, and OSU claimed the designation in three of the nine sports. Zach Ehrhard (baseball), Isaac Becroft (men’s tennis) and Alex Maier (men’s track & field) all showcased their strengths in the classroom and on the field and will take home some hardware for their efforts.

Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominees must be juniors or seniors, hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests with a minimum of one year at their specific school.

Ehrhard: The Cowboy outfielder who earned First-Team honors this past season has now taken home OSU’s first-ever Big 12 Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

Ehrhard boasted a 3.84 grade point average and was named to his second Academic All-Big 12 First Team this past season. He was also a 2024 CSC Academic All-America finalist and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.

While his academic acumen might be a surprise to OSU fans, his successes on the field are not. Ehrhard earned All-Big 12 First Team honors after batting .330, crushing 14 home runs and 57 RBIs. His 75 runs scored led the league and ranked 19th nationally.

Becroft: The senior from New Zealand was one of six Cowboys from the tennis program to earn All-Big 12 Academic First Team honors. This was the second time he’s earned inclusion on that list.

Maier: The graduate student from Flower Mound, Texas was one of 25 Cowboys from the track & field program to be named to the Spring Academic All-Big 12 teams.
