Report: Former Oklahoma State Pitcher Trey Cobb Joining Coaching Staff
Cobb played at OSU in 2014-17.
Trey Cobb is back.
Cobb, who pitched at Oklahoma State in 2014-17, is joining Josh Holliday’s staff as Director of Player Development, according to Pokes Report. OSU confirmed the addition with a press release on Thursday.
He replaces Blake Kangas, who left to become an assistant at South Florida in June. This will be Cobb’s first role in college baseball, but he left a job as a scout for the New York Mets, who just selected OSU’s Carson Benge in the first round of the MLB Draft.
After leaving Stillwater, Cobb played in the Mets and Philadelphia Phillies’ minor league systems during a five-season professional career. He got as high as Triple-AAA but was never called up to The Show as the Mets’ eighth-round draft pick in 2017. He logged a career 4.84 ERA with 18 saves and 19 holds in 163 games, finishing his career pitching sidearm after throwing over the top his whole life.
Cobb primarily served as the Cowboys’ closer while at OSU. He had a career 2.99 ERA and 11 saves in 92 games, 13 of which were starts. He was part of OSU’s 2016 team, which was the last to make the College World Series.
