So the season starts at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers. There the Cowboys will face Clemson, Louisville and Texas. The Tigers earned the 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament last season, making it to the Super Regional Round. The Longhorns were also in the NCAA Tournament field last season.
The Cowboys’ second nonconference tournament will take them a little further south to Houston for the Astros Foundation College Classic at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros. There, OSU will face Tennessee, Texas A&M and Mississippi State. Tennessee won its first NCAA title in baseball last season, and the Aggies were runners-up. Mississippi State was also a tournament team, making it to a regional final.
The Big 12 slate starts March 14 when the Cowboys host West Virginia for a three-game series — a team that made a Super Regional last season.
The Cowboys play all three of the Big 12’s newcomers in series this season (Colorado doesn’t field a baseball team). That starts with a trip to Salt Lake City to play Utah beginning March 21. The Pokes travel to Tucson to play Arizona starting April 11. The Wildcats hosted an NCAA Regional last season (a regional that West Virginia won). Then OSU hosts Arizona State starting March 15.
There’s just one Bedlam game on the schedule, and it’ll be in Stillwater. Oklahoma State is set to host the Sooners on April 15.
In total, the Cowboys’ 55-game schedule includes 29 games at O’Brate Stadium, which includes five Big 12 series. OSU enters the season coming off its 11th straight NCAA Regional appearance, a streak that is the fourth-longest nationally.
