Weekend Watch Guide: An Oklahoma State Fan’s Guide to Week 11 of the College Football Season
A look at games to watch throughout the weekend.
The first College Football Playoff rankings released this week, so going into the weekend, we now know where the committee stands.
This weekend features a handful of games, in the Big 12 and elsewhere, that’ll have a big impact on next week’s rankings. Here is a look at the weekend’s Big 12 schedule as well as some other big games around the country.
Big 12 Schedule
West Virginia (4-4) at Cincinnati (5-3) — 11 a.m. Saturday on FS1
No. 17 Iowa State (7-1) at Kansas (2-6) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on FS1
No. 20 Colorado (6-2) at Texas Tech (6-3) — 3 p.m. Saturday on FOX
UCF (4-5) at Arizona State (6-2) — 6 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2
Oklahoma State (3-6) at TCU (5-4) — 6 p.m. Saturday on FS1
No. 9 BYU (8-0) at Utah (4-4) — 9:15 p.m. Saturday on ESPN
The Big 12 slate starts Saturday morning in Cincy and ends with a late-night Holy War in Utah.
West Virginia has been on a rollercoaster for much of the season. The Mountaineers got back on the right side of things in their most recent game against Arizona, ending a string of two straight losses. In Year 2 in the league, Cincinnati is just a win away from bowl eligibility.
Iowa State is tasked with rebounding from its first loss of the season with a trip to Lawrence to play the struggling Jayhawks. Kansas has beaten just one FBS team this season.
The game between Colorado and Texas Tech looks to be, on paper, the conference’s Game of the Week. The Red Raiders responded from a two-game losing streak by busting Iowa State’s unbeaten season last weekend. Colorado and its pair of Heisman hopefuls are still in the Big 12 title (and College Football Playoff) picture, so this game will draw some national eyeballs.
Fresh off throttling the Cowboys in Stillwater, Arizona State returns home to play a UCF team that torched Arizona last week, ending a five-game losing streak for the Knights.
Although Colorado-Tech might be the more broadly viewed Game of the Week for the conference, my Game of the Week is this Holy War matchup between BYU and Utah in Salt Lake City. It’s the first time the two will play a conference game against each other since 2010 in the Mountain West. The Utes haven’t won since beating OSU. The Cougars are still fighting for College Football Playoff standing.
Other Games to Watch
No. 3 Georgia (7-1) at No. 16 Ole Miss (7-2) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC
Michigan (5-4) at No. 8 Indiana (9-0) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on CBS
No. 25 Army (8-0) at North Texas (5-3) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2
No. 11 Alabama (6-2) at No. 15 LSU (6-2) — 6:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC
Oklahoma (5-4) at No. 24 Missouri (6-2) — 6:45 p.m. Saturday on SEC Network
Nevada (3-7) at No. 12 Boise State (7-1) — 7 p.m. Saturday on FOX
Not a ton of intriguing national games in the morning slot, but Lane Kiffin’s Rebels host Georgia at 2:30 p.m. Georgia is, obviously, in good standing in terms of the CFP, but Ole Miss would be right back in the conversation with a win here.
Michigan is down, sure, but the Wolverines’ trip to Bloomington is the next step in Indiana’s magical season. Should make for a fun atmosphere.
Another game with CFP implications, the Crimson Tide travel to Baton Rouge for a date with the Bayou Bengals. LSU is coming off a loss to Texas A&M while Alabama is 2-2 in its past four games. Sort of a must-win for both teams.
