Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents, Weiberg, Shrum Hold Special Meeting, Nothing Initially Announced
The regents met for about two hours on Friday morning.
STILLWATER — The Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents met for about two hours on Friday morning, and just about all of that time was spent in executive session — closed to the public.
The special meeting was scheduled “for the purpose of considering evaluation/assessment and other information relevant to the employment of Oklahoma State University football staff.” OSU president Dr. Kayse Shrum and athletic director Chad Weiberg joined the regents about 45 or so minutes into the meeting. The pair left shortly before the executive session ended and reporters were allowed back in the room. All that happened after that was a vote to adjourn the meeting. No news of discussions that took place in the meeting was publicly announced.
The Oklahoman‘s Scott Wright stopped board chair Jimmy Harrel on his way out of the room. Harrel said they have a plan and will share that plan when it’s finalized but didn’t discuss anything further than that.
The OSU football team finished 3-9 this season, closing the season on a nine-game losing streak. Reports surfaced on Wednesday that the program was parting ways with coordinators Kasey Dunn and Bryan Nardo.
This special meeting being called led to speculation of head coach Mike Gundy’s future. This past season was Gundy’s 20th as the Cowboys’ head coach and the first time OSU missed a bowl game since Gundy’s first year. With the play on the field being poor, Gundy also got into hot water in early November when discussing “negative people” voicing their opinions, saying in most cases those people “can’t pay their own bills.”
So, what is known: the regents, Weiberg and Shrum met for about two hours Friday morning. What we don’t yet know: basically anything else. The waiting game continues as to finding out what plan Harrel said was made.
