There will now looks be a pair former Cowboys coaching up OSU’s offensive linemen.

Cooper Bassett and Andrew Mitchell are set to be co-offensive line coaches, according to 247Sports’ McClain Baxley. An initial report came out Saturday that suggested Vance Vice, another OSU alum, would coach the Cowboy offensive linemen. But, ESPN’s Pete Thamel also reported Sunday that Bassett was headed to Southern Miss. So, some sort of musical chairs must’ve happened.

Regardless, Bassett — out of Tuttle — played tight end and defensive line in Stillwater from 2009 to 2012. From there, he spent time as a graduate assistant at Missouri and Maryland before heading out to West Texas A&M to coach offensive line in 2017. He worked his way up to West Texas A&M’s running game coordinator in 2019.

In 2021, Bassett moved to be the O-line coach at Southeast Missouri State. He was there for a year before taking to offensive line coach job at Sam Houston in 2022. Bassett started coaching offensive linemen at Utah State in 2023 before adding a co-offensive coordinator title with the Aggies this past season.

Bassett started his playing career in Stillwater as a tight end before moving to the defensive line in 2010 and would stay there for the final three seasons of his career. Bassett finished his OSU career with 50 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, an interception, 34 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

Mitchell — from Choctaw — was an OSU offensive lineman at OSU from 2008 to 2010, coming to Stillwater from Snow College in Utah. After his college career, Mitchell spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mitchell has most recently coached at New Mexico State, coaching the Aggies offensive line while also carrying titles of assistant head coach and run game coordinator. Mitchell has also served on TCU’s staff in two stints. He was the head coach at Snow College in 2019 and 2020. He had also spent time as Snow’s offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and tight ends coach. Mitchell spent time as a graduate assistant at North Carolina (2014-16) and Houston (2013).

Charlie Dickey had coached the Cowboys’ offensive line since 2019.
