For the second time in as many days, the Cowgirls went into the bottom of the seven trailing and walked off with a win.

No. 10 Oklahoma State defeated No. 12 Alabama in the teams’ final contest in the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational. The Cowgirls end the event 3-2 and are 5-4 on the year.

Rosie Davis crushed a two-RBI single to give OSU a walk-off win over the No. 12 team in the country a day after her two-run single set up the walk-off home run by Karli Godwin to beat No. 5 Texas A&M.

The Cowgirls have made a habit of starting slow just to finish strong. They had nearly as many hits in the seventh inning (four) as they did in the preceding six combined (five).

Tallen Edwards got the scoring started in the seventh with a double to left center that scored Rachel Hathoot and pulled the Cowgirls to within 3-2.

Megan Delgadillo chopped a ball back to the pitcher, as Tia Warsop darted from third to home but was tagged out, the second out of the inning.

Davis stepped to the plate and built up a 2-2 count, one strike away from a loss. But then she took that strike and sent it into no man’s land in right field.

The Cowgirls found themselves again in an early hole in Clearwater after Alabama scored two in the fourth. OSU answered with a run in the fifth thanks to a throwing error that sent Warsop home.

Ruby Meylan got the start in the circle and pitched five innings, allowing two runs and striking out five. Then Katie Kutz emerged from the bullpen and closed out the sixth with two stranded Alabama runners before she gave up a run in the top of the seventh thanks to the Tide’s Audrey Vandagriff that made it 3-1 Bama.

Kutz was able to get out of the inning after going up 3-0 in the count to Crimson Tide slugger Alexis Pupillo. Katz and Pupillo squared off for nine pitches before the former struck the latter out swinging which kept OSU within two and facilitated the dramatic walk-off win. Kutz gets the W, allowing two hits and one run in the final two innings while striking out two.

The Cowgirls will leave Clearwater on a good note but were tested, falling to Auburn and No. 4 UCLA while topping No. 23 Kentucky, No. 5 A&M and No. 12 Alabama.

Next up, the Cowgirls head to Arkansas on Friday to take part in the Michelle Short & Adam Brown Tournament. They’ll start with a double-header, facing SIUE at noon Friday and then Central Arkansas at 2:30 p.m. immediately after.
