After picking up three big wins on the weekend, the Cowboys fell back to .500.

Oklahoma State lost to Oral Roberts 10-6 on Tuesday night in Stillwater.

The Golden Eagles took an early lead, but the Cowboys stayed within arm’s reach, even pulling within a run in the bottom of the seventh. But ORU answered in a big way with a four-run eighth inning, and the Pokes weren’t able to recover.

In all, seven Cowboys threw pitches, allowing 10 runs on 15 hits. They walked four and struck out 14. The Golden Eagles batted .349 (15-for-43).

ORU’s first run came on a throwing error, and their next two were unearned. Before long, the Cowboys were down 5-1 in the fourth, with that one OSU run coming off a Brayden Smith single in the third. But that’s when the Pokes started to put a rally together.

In the bottom of the fourth, Brock Thompson made up some ground with a two-RBI double before Nolan Schubart’s solo home run in the fifth made it 5-4. It also set a career milestone for the All-American.

ORU scored a run in the sixth, and then OSU pulled within 6-5 on an Ian Daugherty home run in the seventh.

But that’s when the Golden Eagles closed the door. ORU scored four in the top of the eighth, on four different swings. Wailele Kane-Yates, Keaton Campbell, Makani Tanaka and Ethan Fender each logged RBIs to push the visitors’ lead to 10-5. Daugherty nailed his second homer in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn’t enough.

With the loss, the Cowboys fall to 15-15 and end a three-win streak. Next up, they head to the desert for a weekend series against Arizona. At 8-4, the Wildcats sit in a four-way tie for third place in the Big 12. The Cowboys enter the game at 4-6 in league play. OSU and Arizona will get started at 8 p.m. CST Friday at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson.
