Past, Present and Future Cowboys Taking the Mat This Weekend at U.S. Open
A look at the Cowboys competing in Vegas this weekend.
It’s a fun weekend in the wrestling world, as grapplers from all over the country have convened in Las Vegas for the U.S. Open.
The field features a host of past, present and future Cowboys who are in search of a spot on a world team.
Winners in senior men’s freestyle brackets this weekend will earn a spot at this summer’s Final X. There, they’ll wrestle a best-of-three series for a spot on the world team. If a wrestler doesn’t win it all this weekend, they’ll get another shot at Final X in next month’s Senior World Team Trails. That comes with a pair of exceptions at 57 kg and 61 kg, where returning world/Olympic medalists have already accepted a bid to Final X.
The U20 brackets are in a similar spot. Winning the U.S. Open earns automatic qualification into the best-of-three finals at the U20 World Team Trials in June.
So, here’s a look at the Cowboys who are taking the mat, along with a few wrestlers who didn’t wrestle collegiately in Stillwater but are training at the Cowboy RTC.
